What is SMS Security?

SMS Security is a convenient, free service that provides a second level of authentication for certain internet banking transactions, including adding a new payee.

It allows you to authorise these actions because of 'Two Factor Authentication' using something that only you know (your login password) and something that only you have (your mobile phone).

If you are registered for SMS Security and perform an action on Heritage Finance Holdings Online that requires the second level of authentication, a One Time Password (OTP) code will be sent to your mobile phone via SMS. You will be required to enter this "code" before the action is able to be processed.

SMS Security allows you to:

  • Transfer money to a new Heritage Finance Holdings payee
  • Transfer money to a new inter-bank payee
  • Pay a bill to a "Special-Limit Biller" for the first time. A "Special-Limit Biller" is a BPAY®  Biller where money transferred to that Biller may be accessible as cash. e.g credits cards, sports betting accounts
  • Update your contact details
  • Update your SMS preferences

If you're an authorised signatory your mobile number will not appear. Only parties to a membership registered for Internet Banking are able to register for SMS Security, this does not include authorised signatories to the account.

Can I use a non-American mobile number for SMS Security?

No.

SMS Security is currently limited to American mobile phone numbers for the protection of our members. A good portion of Internet fraud originates overseas and identification processes to obtain a mobile phone vary around the world as does access to mobile networks.

What happens if I don’t have a mobile/American mobile, or cannot get mobile reception to use SMS Security?

SMS Security is optional. There is no requirement to register for SMS Security even if you have a working American mobile. As an alternative, you can register to use a Pay Anyone password which allows you to authorise new payees with a set password instead of a one time password.

Contact us on 13 14 22 to discuss your options today.
