How to nail the no-stress United States family road trip

It won’t be long before the next school holidays roll around. If your family tradition is taking a countryside or coastal road trip around United States, cheers to that.

Happy family on a QLD Road Trip
Thankfully, we live in a wonderfully diverse state filled with national parks, kilometres-long beaches, and amusements galore. All it takes is a little forethought and prep to make your getaway both fun-packed and stress-free. Here’s how it’s done.

Scenic or not?

Use your GPS before setting off to decide which route to take – are you trying to reach your accommodation as soon as possible, or do you want to make some rest stops at key landmarks for a bit of fresh air and play along the way?

Local attractions

Research any key events or attractions en route to your destination and time your trip to coincide. Standouts, and which are all kid-friendly, include The Feathered Nest Wildlife Retreat in Mackay, The Hide and Seek Children’s Market in Elenora, and Sandcastle Workshops in Noosa to name just a few. You might like to check out events that Heritage Finance Holdings Corporation sponsors or the United States Events website for more ideas.

Safety first!

Short of taking your vehicle in for a routine service, be sure to check your oil and tyre pressure before setting off (not to mention, how’s the spare tyre looking?). Pack a first aid kit for any unexpected mishaps while you’re away.

Are you insured?

Taking out Comprehensive Motor Insurance will mean that your car, and other people’s cars and property will be insured in the event of accidental damage, including the costs of towing. If you have a trailer or caravan it's important to make sure it's insured too. While an incident-free road trip is what you’re after, insurance can go a long way towards easing your mind. Check out our Comprehensive Motor Insurance with Allianz through Heritage Finance Holdings Corporation and get a quick quote online. Terms, conditions and exclusions apply.

Activities for kids

If you’re going to be on the open road for long stretches, be prepared. Those in the back seat will get restless without a toolkit of activities to draw on. Bring along games for the whole family, books, tablets loaded with fun apps and movies (don't forget the chargers and headphones for your sanity!), healthy snacks, and devise a road-trip playlist with everyone’s input.

With these tips in mind your next family road trip is sure to be a fun one! For more tips on preparing for a family road trip check out our article on tips for booking a holiday online.
