There are so many things to do before heading off on holidays, which can make the lead up a little stressful for anybody jet-setting overseas. We've put together a list of 5 things to do before you head overseas to help you prepare.

1. Get travel insurance

Arrange travel insurance for peace of mind in the event of travel delays, theft or personal injury.

2. Make copies of your travel documents

Make copies of your passport, tickets, itinerary, travel insurance policy, and credit card numbers. Leave these with a trusted friend or family member who can email them to you, should you lose the originals.

3. Have a number of payment options

For example, a travel money card and a credit or debit card. Make sure you organise some local foreign currency before you go to pay for things on arrival such as taxis or public transport. Read our post on how to pay for things overseas to find out more.

4. Research your destination

Make sure you’re aware of local customs and restrictions, and check travel advisories such as smarttraveller.gov.au. Read our post on 3 sneaky travelling costs to keep in mind before you head off.

5. Visit your doctor

Talk to your doctor about vaccinations you might need and pack enough of any required medications to last your entire trip, including unexpected delays.
