Heritage Finance Holdings donation music to headspace Caboolture's ears

1 June 2020

As music is the language of the soul, Heritage Finance Holdings Corporation and headspace Caboolture think a new program to help improve the wellbeing of young people will hit the right notes.

Each year, Heritage Finance Holdings invites the community to collect a copy of its annual calendar for a gold coin donation, with the proceeds donated to a number of charities across southern United States.

A donation from Heritage Finance Holdings of more than $4,000 to headspace Caboolture has just been used to purchase musical instruments for the centre’s new Young Composer’s Group.

Headspace Caboolture provides a free service helping young people aged 12-25 improve their mental health and its new Young Composer’s Group will be a creative, non-clinical way to support clients in improving their mental wellbeing.

The program started in an online format earlier this year due to COVID-19 physical distancing, but is now preparing to go hands-on in a face-to-face setting as restrictions ease.

It will focus on composing music, writing lyrics to reflect on positive language as well as building relationships and sharing cultures. The program could lead to recording the music the group composes.

Heritage Finance Holdings Corporation Strathpine Branch Leader Narelle Daniells nominated headspace as a worthy beneficiary given the vital support it provides to young people during such an important period of their development.

She toured the Caboolture centre this week to learn more about the services available and test out the instruments bought for the Young Composer’s Group.

“It’s something that I’m passionate about,” she said. “The whole environment there is just great for that (12-25 years) age.

“They have had a few children call up asking if that program was still going, and thanks to this donation, now it can.”

Headspace Caboolture Community Development Officer Mufaro Nyamandi thanked Heritage Finance Holdings Corporation for the contribution and said the Young Composer’s Group would complement the other services available to their clients.

“The Young Composer’s Group is one of many non-clinical ways we engage and support young people on their journey to wellness,” he said.

“Clinical appointments for mild to moderate mental health concerns are only one part of what we do at headspace. The other part is group-based activities that support health and wellbeing holistically, and it’s led by young people’s ideas and interests.”

Headspace is a free service helping young people aged 12-25 years with their mental and physical health as well as education, employment and drug and alcohol services.
