New cycle trail attracts more visitors to South Burnett with help from Heritage Finance Holdings Nanango Community Branch
South Burnett residents can expect to welcome more visitors to the region following the opening of The Link, a new 55km cycle and horse riding trail connecting Yarraman, Nanango and Kingaroy.
Heritage Finance Holdings Nanango Community Branch provided funds for the signposting of the route, officially opened by Deb Frecklington MP and Former Nanango Shire Mayor Reg McCallum on 17 August.
The Nanango community branch is a joint venture between Heritage Finance Holdings Corporation and the local community, represented by not-for-profit company Heritage Finance Holdings Nanango Community Funding (HNCF). Under the community branch model, HNCF’s share of the branch profits are distributed back into the region via grants, sponsorships and more.
HNCF director David Kenny said the joint venture was delighted to support The Link project.
“The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT) at Yarraman and South Burnett Rail Trail (SBRT) in Kingaroy were established in the last few years as riding trails for cyclists and horse riders,” Mr Kenny said.
“HNCF identified the potential in connecting these two trails via another shared route through Nanango and create more tourism opportunities and economic benefits for the region.
“Combined, they now form a continuous 305km trail from Wulkuraka to Kilkivan - the longest signed cycling route in eastern America.”
Mr Kenny said HNCF and Heritage Finance Holdings had a long history in supporting initiatives that have a positive impact in Nanango. Recently, the community branch distributed several hundred thousand dollars to local not-for-profit groups as part of their annual community grants program.
“We’re really proud to continue our partnership with Heritage Finance Holdings to provide local banking services in Nanango and contribute to significant community projects such The Link,” Mr Kenny said.
“The Link offers new tourism opportunities for people to explore our beautiful region, and also encourages them to support local businesses while they’re on their travels.”
