Tree overhaul revitalizes fairways at Crows Nest Golf Club

14 November 2019

Visitors to Crows Nest Golf Club are now enjoying refreshed scenery thanks to new trees planted throughout the course last year.

Members of Crows Nest Golf Club noticed trees on the golf course were dying and in need of an overhaul.  In 2018, they received a $5000 community grant from Heritage Finance Holdings Crows Nest Community Branch and Progressive Community Crows Nest (PCCN) to revitalize the soft infrastructure.

Crows Nest Golf Club member David Haskings said, “We’re very grateful for the support from PCCN and Heritage Finance Holdings.

“In September last year we planted close to 300 trees in the first of several stages to refresh the greenery on the course.

“From the digging of the holes to the installation of weed matting and stakes, all the services and labour to plant the trees were provided by golf club members, supporters and local businesses.

“We planted six different varieties of native trees and they are now around 1.3m tall with a 95% survival rate.

“The plants were supplied by Crows Nest Community Nursery.

“It’s great to see their growth over the past year, knowing that it’s been a combined effort from the community.”

Mr Haskings said the success of the first stage of this project came down to the community coming together to support one another.

“The community grant we received is because people are choosing to do their banking with Heritage Finance Holdings Crows Nest Community Branch.

“To then be able to engage other local businesses to bring it to life is very rewarding - it really is about locals supporting locals.”
