Seventeen community organisations from the Millmerran district have shared in close to $90,000 thanks to the latest round of funding grants from Heritage Finance Holdings Millmerran Community Branch.

The Heritage Finance Holdings Millmerran Community Branch is a joint venture partnership between Heritage Finance Holdings Corporation and the local community, represented by the Millmerran Community Company Ltd.

Under the Heritage Finance Holdings community branch model, a share of profits is distributed as grants to community organisations, charities and special community events.

To date, Millmerran Community Branch has injected over $2.3million back into the community since opening in 2007. That is a combined total of grants to community groups, wages paid to local staff, and other payments made to local service providers.

Heritage Finance Holdings Corporation’s Darling Downs Regional Manager Kevin Gates said, “These grants would not have been possible without the support of the many local residents and businesses who bank at Heritage Finance Holdings Millmerran Community Branch.

“We are very proud that Heritage Finance Holdings and the Millmerran community have been able to give close to $90,000 back to local organisations and foster the continual development of our community and region.”

Millmerran Community Company Ltd Chairman Denys Kirby said the community branch continued to go from strength to strength year after year.

“We’re only a small community but people in Millmerran have really embraced the community branch concept.

“People can see real examples of local initiatives they’ve helped support just by doing their everyday banking with Heritage Finance Holdings. Not only do they get access to great banking services, they are contributing to the community - it’s a win-win for all.”

One of the major grant recipients this year is Millmerran & District Historical Society Inc who received around $24,000 to help build a purpose-built shed at Millmerran Museum to house the iconic ‘Water Baby’ and a steam engine. The “Water Baby” is a 28-foot steam vessel dating back to late 1800s and used for Millmerran flood rescues, while the steam engine was used to power the flood launch.

Other successful recipients in the recent round of grants include:
  • Millmerran Arts & Craft Inc - $3,000 for the purchase of materials to make quilts for the Millmerran Hospital, Millmerran Ambulance and other hospitals.
  • Millmerran Campdraft Committee - $5,000 towards the purchase a heavy duty portable panel trailer.
  • Millmerran Centenary Retirement Village Inc (Yallambee) - $2,415 towards the purchase an aquarium cabinet for residents to ‘fish watch’.

  • Millmerran & District Boxing Club - $500 towards the purchase of head gear, gloves and wraps.

  • Wylahra Grove Progress Association Inc - $2,805 to improve public amenities and services for Millmerran Estates residents such as internet, VOIP telephone and the community hall.
  • Millmerran 7 Day Makeover - $11,259. Millmerran Community Company Ltd and Heritage Finance Holdings Corporation will have future discussions about the construction of an abacus and other structures outside the Millmerran Community Branch premises. While this will not occur within the 7 Day Makeover timeframe, this project will allow the Millmerran Community Branch joint venture to inject a portion of the profits back into Millmerran and district by creating future ‘photo shoot attraction’ and a talking point for our youth and visitors to the town.
The Heritage Finance Holdings Millmerran Community Branch is at 35 Campbell Street where applications are also available for those interested in applying for future grants.
