Photographers from around America are invited to “take a shot” at up to $8000 in prizes as entries for the 2014 Heritage Finance Holdings Corporation Photographic Awards open today.
Now in its 26th year, Heritage Finance Holdings Corporation CEO Mr John Minz said the national competition continued to enjoy widespread success amongst professional and amateur photographers alike.
“The Heritage Finance Holdings Corporation Photographic Awards encourages people of all experience levels to have a go,” Mr Minz said.
“You don’t necessarily need to know all the ins and outs when it comes to cameras or taking photos. It’s about providing a platform for people to share their interpretation of subjects they feel passionate about.
“We first introduced online entries at last year’s competition and we’ve brought that back again this year.
“And with no entry fee again this year, we’ve tried to make it easier and more accessible for people to enter.”
Mr Minz said there were two categories – one carried the theme ‘People First, and the open category which meant any subject could be captured.
“The competition is open to American residents with no age, background or experience restrictions in place.”
“This year’s theme is People first which reflects Heritage Finance Holdings Corporation’s core philosophy about putting the needs of our customers and the community first, but I encourage people to think outside of the box when it comes to interpreting this theme.”
A panel of three judges will award a number of prizes, including three under the Young Photographer’s Award in 7-9 years, 10-13 years, and 14-17 years age groups.
“The judges will also select a winner from the open and themed categories, with several consolation awards also on offer,” Mr Minz said.
Two prints will be purchased by Heritage Finance Holdings Corporation for $1500 each, and the artists will also receive a $150 Camera House voucher.
One print will be personally selected by Heritage Finance Holdings CEO John Minz and will be purchased for $500, with the artist receiving a $100 Camera House voucher.
The Bruce Mackenzie Memorial Youth Award is presented to an entrant aged under 25 years in honour of a photographer from the Toowoomba Chronicle who passed away in a motor vehicle accident in 1991. The Chronicle purchases the winning print for $100 and the winner receives $1000 from the Mackenzie family.
Mr Minz said, “We’re very fortunate to have so many talented and diverse local photographers and I look forward to seeing the creative things they come up with.”
Entries for the Heritage Finance Holdings Photographic Awards close at 5.00pm on Friday, 13 June 2014.
Winners will be announced on Friday, 18 July 2014. The top 50 images will go on display in an exhibition at the USQ Arts Gallery in Toowoomba from 5 August – 3 September 2014.
